4th of July!
Happy 4th of July! It continues to be super hot! I think it's been 100+ degrees for like 2 weeks. So the 4th was a little miserable and most fireworks in the area were canceled. We were able to walk along in our neighborhood parade. It was so HOT, Cameron asked if they could have it inside. Obviously, that wasn't an option, but he was a trooper and did the whole route which just lasted about 10-15 min. I had to walk home and get the car and go back to pick him & Lonnie up. Later in the afternoon we were able to go see Chris, Steff & Ella. They had a party for the 4th and we all had lots of fun!
Saying goodbye to our bird
Well, we cared for the bird for 9 days! He was a lot of work, but Cameron really enjoyed it. It was really interesting to watch too. His mom & dad came several times everyday and fed him. As soon as the baby bird would start chirping, they would be there feeding him. I tried to get some pics of them too, but it was kind of hard because if they saw us, they would fly away. The birds eyes finally opened around day 3 or 4. But then they seemed to close again. I'm not sure if they were infected, but they seemed like they had some kind of film over them. There were several days that we came home and he flew out of the box. We would find him in the mulch, on the sidewalk, under the deck box, etc. He tried to fly, but didn't get far. On Tuesday, he kept trying to fly more so I put him on a stick and put him in a tree. He seemed to like it, but then he flew into the house...twice! So then we put him back in the box and thought, ok, we will keep him at least one more night. We went out for a bit that night and came home and he was out of the box...again! We put him on the stick and we were going to put him back in the box and he flew...all the way up to the top of the garage across from our driveway. He stayed there all night! He was still there when I went to work the next morning. He was still there when Lonnie and Cameron got up. Lonnie took his fishing pole and tried to help him down but this time he flew and flew, all the way down to a tree in a nearby culdesac. Lonnie said they watched him and he fell a couple times in the tree trying to land. And that's the last we saw of the bird. I knew it he was going to take off soon, so that day I took some pics of Cameron and his friend. He has been sad about the bird and continues to pray for him. He prays that the bird is safe and that his mommy & daddy found him and take care of him and he says he misses him.
It was a neat experience, but also a big responsibility. We all became really attached to him and caring for him and trying to keep him out of this crazy heat! It's funny because today, Cameron spotted a birds nest in the new house next door, some birds made a nest by the gutters in the garage! I hope these birds stay in their nest. Cameron is already waiting for his next baby bird to arrive. :)
